DESCRIPTION:Further to my recent correspondence regarding the passing of Paul Whiting.I have today been informed of the arrangements for Pauls’ funeral.Sue Whiting and family have extended an open invitation to all Chapter Members who are available to attend.The service will take place at 11.45 on Thursday 2nd December 2021\, at the Chapel at Counties Crematorium\, Towcester Road\, Milton Malsor\, Northampton\, NN4 9RN.The Chapter is also invited by Sue to ride and escort the funeral cortege from the house to the crematorium. We will be meeting at the Super Sausage\, Watling Street\, A5\, NN12 7QD from 10.00 am for a departure time of 10.30 to ride to the house. SUMMARY:Route 66 Motorcycle Memories with John Lourie
DESCRIPTION:John Lourie tell us:“Having ridden lots of different (mainly very old) motorcycles since 1959\, and having lots of relatives in the US and Canada\, I felt the time had come in 1996 to ‘have a go’ on a Harley-Davidson in its home country (having previously only ridden one down the A5 from Bletchley to Hockcliffe). \n\n\n\nThe taunt from a friend living in N. Carolina that I was nothing more than a middle-aged ‘last-chance trendy’ sealed the decision\, and a huge third-hand Harley with an engine bigger than a small car – and weighing almost as much – was procured from the retired Chief of Police in a town in Vermont.There followed 20 years of perambulations around North America\, taking in the ‘Four Corners’: Nova Scotia in NE Canada\, Key West on the southernmost tip of Florida\, Southern California\, and Alaska\, mostly with my long-suffering late wife Lucinda on the back.  One trip was from New York to Los Angeles\, taking in the whole length of (as much as remains of) the iconic Route 66\, and I will try to give a flavour of this experience in this talk. (I finally parted with the great beast 3 or 4 years ago\, my explanation being that in my mid-70s I had got a bit light for the bike). \n\n\n\nThis event will take place at the Milton Keynes Synagogue.
