SUMMARY:Hogs around the Rock Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Jersey “HOGs around the Rock” rally returns in September 2023 following two years of Covid disruption. This event has historically been a biennial event that is targeted at the discerning HOG member who likes a little comfort and the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy a few days in a unique location. Finally\,we are back for 2023!  \n\n\n\nJersey is a small island (9 miles by 5 miles) with around 350 miles of roads and country lanes that are often narrow and winding. Speed is not something that you can push on the island roads but then why would you when you either have lovely sea vistas or countryside to look at. \n\n\n\nWith a population of over 100\,000\, and a vibrant Finance industry\, it means that accommodation is usually very good\, and the restaurants are both plentiful and of superior quality. Being surrounded by the sea means that seafood is a norm\, but those meat eaters can still get their teeth into great steaks. \n\n\n\nThe HOGs around the Rock rally is a boutique event and as such you’ll thoroughly enjoy yourself and get to know everyone that attends. The rally will be based upon riding around the island taking in some of the island’s unique history with several opportunities to visit the extensive German WW2 sites\, a definite “must do” for your diary.  \n\n\n\nWe’re going to fit in an evening ride to enjoy the sunset over the sea\, rides to various historic locations\, a day of riding the lanes to conclude with a ride around the coast of Jersey. SUMMARY:The Picnic Ride (aka Gloria's dangle and dip)
DESCRIPTION:Departing from Towcester McDonalds at 09:30. Mike Wakelin leading\n\n\n\nThis ride is now to join our own Nene Valley Secretary\, Steve Whatmore\, (Gloria) who has been nominated by family to do a 300ft bungee jump to celebrate his 70th (yes 70th) birthday. It’s not my idea of a way to celebrate anything\, let alone becoming a septuagenarian\, but as ever he’s more than up for it.So\, my original picnic ride has been re-planned to join him at Bray Lake between Maidenhead and Windsor on the A308.The ride will leave MacDonalds\, Towcester at 9.30 for what will be a busy ride down the A43\, A41\, A413\, A355 & A308. These are all main roads and we will be passing through Aylesbury and Slough so KEEPING UP will be essential as there are traffic lights and lots of Joe Public out to split us up. Bray lake are allowing us to park right up by the event site and use their facilities which are limited but clean. They do have a small family run cafe / coffee bar but they can be a tad slow and might struggle if we all hit them together so I would suggest sandwiches and a flask but I would still encourage everyone to try and purchase something if possible as a thank you. Steve’s jump is timed for 2.00pm but we’re leaving early enough to cope with traffic\, a stop and be able to get settled prior to the event. On the way down we will have to ride for around an hour and a half before we stop at Beaconsfield services at the M40 where we can all have a pee and top up on any grub or drinks. There is NO NEED to fill with fuel as we will do that prior to entering the site.We will leave around 2.30 -2.45 (or as dictated by the jump) for a faster ride home up the M308\, M404 and M40. The ride will finish at Baynards Green services on the A43. Distance will be around 80 miles there and less back. Steve’s jump will go ahead in the rain but not strong wind. The ride will be pretty much weather dependant as it won’t be much fun for us in the wet so keep an eye on the Facebook page and emails etc.Steve is setting up a just giving page and I’m sure will accept donations on the day that will go to Ride to Give and MacMillan.Don’t forget that this ride is one of the Landmark challenge rides.Hope to see you all there. SUMMARY:Thunder in the Glens
DESCRIPTION:The first Dunedin Chapter Rally was held in 1997. Apart from one year\, it has been held in Aviemore on the last weekend in August. It is run by the Dunedin HOG Chapter in partnership with Edinburgh Harley-Davidson\, Dunedin’s sponsoring dealership. During the weekend\, the rally attracts over 10\,000 visitors to the Aviemore and Speyside area. Year on year the Rally has grown from strength to strength and attracts headline acts and local entertainers. DESCRIPTION:Departing from Rugby truck stop at 10:00hrs on Saturday 19th August. Slow Hand leading\n\n\n\nWhy not come and join us for a ride around the country lanes of our counties – Warwickshire and Northants \n\n\n\nThis is a chilled ride out that comprises 2 shifts in the TESCO van. \n\n\n\nHaving loaded the van\, we depart Stobbart Truck stop on the A5 and do a route that will ultimately take us to the Rugby Tesco Superstore (that I work out of)  \n\n\n\nIt’s about 30 miles and should take about 1hr 15 mins \n\n\n\nWe will stop at Rugby store for toilet\, coffee and fuel for those that need it. \n\n\n\nAfter re-loading the van we head off on the slightly long afternoon shift and will cover about 45 miles and take just over 1hr 30 mins \n\n\n\nOur final destination will be the White Horse pub in the village of Old. \n\n\n\nHopefully it will be a sunny day and we use the beer garden.    \n\n\n\nOnce I have numbers for those wishing to come I will liaise with the pub regarding pre-orders if you wish to eat. \n\n\n\nFinally\, this ride requires decent weather – therefore if the forecast is poor for the day I will postpone.  Keep an eye out on the chapter website\, facebook\, email. \n\n\n\n Cheers   Slow Hand          Mobile:   07709 205571      Email : c.lapsley@ntlworld.com
